UGIMA 4509 for the automotive industry

Ugitech has expanded their portfolio in the range of UGIMA® steel grades with improved machinability. The new ferritic stainless steel UGIMA® 4509 is the answer to increasing demands of the automotive industry for more efficient machinability and better corrosion and oxidation resistance. UGIMA® 4509 is optimally suited to different methods of working, such as machining, cold heading and welding. This grade is also exceedingly heat and corrosion resistant. This combination of properties makes it ideal for car engines and exhaust systems.
Niobium is one of the alloying elements in UGIMA® 4509, which helps prevent the formation of intergranular corrosion at welds. The addition of titanium in the chemical analysis limits the grain size and excessive grain growth in the microstructure. The produced parts during welding could otherwise cause heat cracks to form. The new grade of steel permanently withstands high and cyclic temperatures of up to 700°C.
UGIMA® 4509 is available as steel bar, rolled descaled, turned, ground, drawn and black. The dimensions range from 2 to 73 mm in diameter depending on the as-delivered condition.
