SKF has announced the release of its multi-purpose stainless steel deep groove ball bearings (DGBBS). Unlike other series, the deep groove ball bearing are to corrosion in moisture and other corrosive environments. Sealed versions can also be supplied with different grease fillings, which makes them ideal for a wide range of applications, including chemical equipment, paper mills and nuclear technology. The deep grove ball bearings consist of deep raceway grooves, without filling slots, and a close osculation between raceways and balls. This breakthrough in design means that they can carry axial loads acting in both directions, in addition to radial loads, even at high speeds. The running properties are the same as standard ball bearings although there is a slightly reduced load carrying capacity. The bearings have been temperature stabilised at 150degC but can withstand temperatures up to 300degC depending on the lubricant used. The ability to use different grease fillings makes the deep grove ball bearings highly prized.
For example, they can be used in the food industry, which uses non-toxic grease, or industries that require grease with good tolerance levels to high temperatures. SKF’s deep grove ball bearings are available in several types and sizes, with diameters up to 50mm.
