MIMETE Srl announced the newest powders from the iron-base family: standard Duplex MARS F51 and Super-duplex MARS F53.
Duplex steel F51 is a widely used grade, where the relatively high content of Cr, Mo, and Ni generates better performing mechanical properties when compared to austenitic stainless steel. Indeed, it has very good pitting corrosion resistance and stress corrosion cracking resistance. While F53 is a highly alloyed duplex steel, so-called super-duplex”;, distinguished by its much higher corrosion resistance, which makes it the best choice for highly critical atmospheres and environments. Duplex and super-duplex mechanical properties are well known to the oil & gas and maritime industries, which has taken advantage of them for a long time.
These industries look at additive manufacturing with deep interest. This is because it could lead to lower operating costs by streamlining production processes and developing a lean supply chain (for instance, in loco repairing).
