US Steel announces new president

Thomas J. Usher, chairman of United States Steel Corp., has announced the election of John P. Surma Jr to the position of President of US Steel, with effective from 1 March. In his new position, Surma will report to Usher who will continue as Chairman and CEO. Surma joined US Steel as Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer when the company was spun off from USX Corp. on 1 January 2002. He previously held several senior management positions with USX, Marathon Oil and Marathon Ashland Petroleum.
Succeeding Mr Surma will be Gretchen R. Haggerty, who has been named Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. In her new position Ms Haggerty, who was formerly Senior Vice President and Treasurer, will report to Surma along with Roy G. Dorrance, who continues as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, and Dan D. Sandman, who continues as Vice Chairman and Chief Legal and Administrative Officer.
