Elmar Upitis, an engineering consultant, was honored with the Founding Committee Award by ASTM International’s committee on steel, stainless steel and related alloys (A01).
Upitis was honored for the highest level of leadership and exemplary contributions to ASTM International’s founding committee, and for the promotion of voluntary consensus standards. The award is the most prestigious recognition presented by the committee.
An ASTM International member since 1986, Upitis served in the U.S. Army and held a variety of roles with the Chicago Bridge and Iron Co., including chief design engineer in the European engineering office, manager of metals engineering, and senior principal engineer – metals, during his 40 years with the organization.
Upitis holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois.
In addition to ASTM International, Upitis is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (fellow), National Association of Corrosion Engineers, American Welding Society, American Society for Metals, and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Illinois.
