With a scientific committee meting which was held on the 24 January the Supermartensitic Stainless Steels 2002 conference took its next step forward. The conference that will be held in the Flanders European Conference Centre in Brussels, Belgium, on 2–4 October 2002, looks set to become highly informative. The interest of the materials community in supermartensitic stainless steels was well reflected by the high number of paper proposals that were received. In order to offer the conference delegates a comprehensive overview of developments and experiences the scientific committee decided on extending the conference programme. After the opening reception on the evening of Wednesday 2 October the packed programme will cover two full days and more than 30 papers. New in this year’s edition of the conference will be a panel discussion in order to propagate an open discussion on the field experiences and pros and cons of the material. Furthermore there will be the possibility to present posters in addition to the paper presentations.
