Stat Oil Eyes Natural Gas Venture

Norway’s Stat Oil is interested in moving into natural gas production in Venezuela and looking for the right moment to work jointly with state-run Petróleos de Venezuela , PDVSA. Stat Oil President Steffan Riban said that its firm intends to tap Venezuelan offshore gas reserves in a deal with PDVSA that awaits “the right opportunity” to work together, a local daily reported in today’s edition. “We are studying the Orinoco delta platform, for example, for offshore gas exploration and we are visiting some companies that have experience in gas, like Norway, but there is nothing concrete,” PDVSA’s Arnoldo Rodríguez Ochoa, the oil giant’s director general, told newspaper The Daily Journal. “We are still holding talks but we definitely have plans to do something on this,” he said. “By the end of the year, we hope to have something firm with the countries we are speaking to,” Rodríguez added.
