Start-up of mill stand at Böhler Bleche

A new three-high mill stand has been successfully completed for the rolling of special steel at Böhler Bleche GmbH, Austria. Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI), also of Austria, completed the work within a 12-month period. The advanced three-high mill stand is equipped with hydraulic adjustment, automatic regulation of the roll gap and roller bearing work rolls. Maximum rolling force is designed for 40,000 kN. Only four three-high mill stands of this size exist world-wide. Considering the size of this mill, a particular challenge was correct dimensioning of the pinion reduction gear. The project was officially handed over on 29 September 2001, during Böhler Bleche’s tenth anniversary.
