Shell plant tour great success

Stainless Steel World 2001 Conference’s pre-conference seminar and technical plant tour at Shell Pernis was a great success. Shell Pernis, close to the Rotterdam port, is one of Europe’s largest industrial complexes with over 60 plants and 3000 employees. Stainless Steel world was particularly pleased to be able to offer its delegates insight into the operation of this impressive complex.
Together with an guided tour of the facilities a number of presentations were given by Shell’s materials professionals on topics typical of the refinery and petrochemical industries. For example, Mr Fred Busch, head of the materials department of Shell Netherlands Chemicals, presented information on corrosion engineering. Mr Sytze Huizinga of Shell Global Solutions gave a broad overview of the expertise and capabilities of this Shell company. Other presentations focused on corrosion problems and practical problems at Shell Refinery Pernis and Shell Chemicals Pernis.
All in all there was a clear focus on field experiences of materials professionals. These were felt to be very valuable and informative by the close to 50 delegates that found time to attend the tour.
