Phu Quy island wind power plant underway

PetroVietnam Power Corporation has begun construction on their Phy Quy wind power plant project located on Phu Quy Island in Binh Thuan. The VND 335 billion plant is scheduled for completion in February 2011. It will have three 2MW turbines, a capacity of 6MW and an annual electricity output of 25.4 million kW. The plant will operate alongside a diesel power plant now located on the island. The project contractors are made up of Viet Nam Electronics and Informatics Joint Stock Corporation, the Viettronic Joint Stock Company and the Amec Technology Joint Stock Company. The electricity supply from the diesel plant has a total capacity of 3000kW and works for 16 hours per day. This shortage of power has forced residents and businesses on the island to use generators with a capacity of 1000kW. The project will aid the current power shortage while improving the socio economic development of Phy Quy Island.
