Outokumpu has supplied rectangular hollow sections and L-profiles manufactured from duplex plate to Eversendai Engineering LLC, the company in charge of delivering the structural package for the new building. Duplex stainless steel was chosen as it provides the required strength for the core of the structure. The hollow structural sections are stainless steel profiles which are manufactured by welding two U-shaped stainless steel profiles together.
“The production of the structural sections for this project included various steps from cutting and bending to edge preparation to ensure a smooth installation at the construction site,” said Tobias Larsson from Outokumpu’s sales company in United Arab Emirates.
Structural sections offer a wide range of opportunities for builders to take advantage of the properties of duplex stainless steel where high strength and long service life are required. Duplex stainless steel allows for considerable weight savings where their strength can be utilized in design, which makes it a cost-efficient high-strength steel alternative.
The new Qatar Foundation Headquarters building will also include an adjacent three to four-storey high strategic studies centre, which, together with the main headquarters building, sits on a common podium. The building is scheduled for completion in mid-2013.
