Outokumpu delivers stainless to rebuild dam

Outokumpu will deliver special stainless steel for the project to rebuild the dam in Tammerkoski rapids. All of the main structural parts of the sluice and flood gates will be made using Outokumpu’s lean duplex LDX 2101® to guarantee uninterrupted, largely maintenance-free service life for two centuries. The Tammerkoski rapids run through the centre of the Finnish city, Tampere, powering four hydroelectric power plants. As part of a rehabilitation project, the dam walls will be renovated and the dam structures will be replaced. Duplex LDX 2101® was the optimal choice for this project as the strength of the material allows for thinner and lighter structures, making it easier to operate the gates. The hardness of the material surface protects the gates against load caused by ice. The project is scheduled for completion during 2012.
