Nippon Steel to build platform in Gulf of Siam

Nippon Steel Corporation has received an order to construct a natural gas development
platform and pipeline for PTT Exploration and Production (PTT-EP), a Thai company. The platform is to be located in the Gulf of Siam, and all related operations have been consigned to Nippon Steel, including design, procurement, production, and testing. Thai Nippon Steel will actually take responsibility for construction, with Nippon Steel’s own ocean-going operations vessel, Kuroshio, in charge of fitting the pipeline to the platform itself. The platform, which is due to be completed in March 2003, will be of the well type, consisting of a deck, jacket, pile and conductor. It will weigh 5370 tons, and the 16-inch diameter pipeline will extend 18km across the ocean floor.
