Nickel alloy and special stainless steels distributor Philip Cornes has announced that it now has stock availability of the nickel, chromium, molybdenum alloy C-22 (UNS N06022). The new stocks are available in sheet and plate in a wide range of sizes. Used particularly in the chemical, petrochemical, power generation, pulp and paper industries, Alloy C-22 is characterised by excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive media, to crevice and pitting corrosion and to stress corrosion cracking. Because of its high nickel and molybdenum contents, it is resistant to attack by chloride ions. A tungsten content further enhances this resistance. Alloy C-22 is one of the few materials that resists wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite and the chlorine dioxide solutions found in pulp and paper processing. Typical applications include digesters and bleach plants in the pulp and paper industry, scrubbers, reheaters and wet fans for incinerator gas and flue-gas desulphurisation and equipment and components in sour gas service. The alloy is also used widely on chemical reactors in the pharmaceutical industry.
