Mike elected to Welding Institute Governing Council

TWI announced that BAE Systems Maritime Submarines Welding Manager and Fellow of The Welding Institute, Mike Skyrme, has been elected to the governing council of The Welding Institute.

Mike has been elected to represent over 5000 Professional Members on Council, where his role will involve supporting the provision of overall governance, as well as setting the strategic direction for both The Welding Institute and TWI by overseeing the delivery and management of The Welding Institute’s services and membership benefits for its individual Professional Members, including Engineering Council registration.

Mike joined The Welding Institute in 1999 as a Technician Member (TechWeldI). Mike has chaired the Welding Trailblazer scheme since 2014, where his work involved the development and embedding of new, high-quality standards for welding apprentices. Additionally, Mike was also the first winner of The Welding Institute’s Continuous Development and Learning Award in 2018.

Mike’s involvement with The Welding Institute, joining as a Technician Member (TechWeldI) in 1999, saw him continue on to be awarded Fellowship status last year and now, having being elected to the governing council.
