Finland: Areva modernisation

A consortium led by AREVA (through its joint subsidiary with Siemens, Framatome ANP) in association with Siemens PG, has signed a contract worth more than EUR 50 million with Fortum Heat and Power Oy. This contract covers the modernisation of safety and non-safety instrumentation & control (I&C) systems in both units of the Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland. The work will start in January and will be carried out during scheduled outages. The upcoming modernisation is the first stage of a long-term investment programme that was launched by Fortum and will be finished by 2014. By performing this modernisation work, AREVA is ensuring that the Loviisa power plant will remain up to date with the current state of the art in the future. AREVA has already successfully upgraded a large number of VVER reactors worldwide, with this covering 12 units at the nuclear power plants in Bohunice (Slovakia), Dukovany (Czech Republic) and Paks (Hungary).
