Expanding plugs for stainless steel pipes

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Ltd’s Pipestoppers Division has introduced an extension to its range of expanding plugs for sealing, stopping, testing and weld purging of stainless steel oil and gas pipes and pipework. The total range of plugs is manufactured from nylon, a high-quality, inert, engineering polymer giving high accuracy, a guarantee of sealing, a long lifetime, no risk of contaminating critical pipework and above all, no rusting. Pipestoppers Expanding Plugs are manufactured in 16 models to suit pipe bores from 12mm to 150mm diameter with the expansion range of each one overlapping the next, to cover the whole range of imperial and metric pipe sizes. The plugs have hollow shafts that are threaded to accept BSP connectors. They are supplied with plain end caps containing a rubber seal. Plain nozzle connectors for attaching flexible hoses for venting, for water or for gas hoses are also available as accessories. The plugs have a centre shaft over which are two compression plates. Between the compression plates is a natural rubber ring that is expanded by means of a wing nut on the shaft, which when tightened closes the two plates and compresses the rubber ring seal between them to seal the plug tightly inside the pipe.
