Dow to shut one plant and build another

Dow Chemical Co. will build one facility and close another, cutting 90 jobs by 2005 in the process. The company will start construction of a new plant in Freeport, Texas, as part of its Texas operations. The plant is slated to start production in late 2004 of PMDI, or polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, a chemical used in appliances and forest products, among other items. At the same time, it will close its PMDI facility in La Porte, Texas by 2005. The existing plant is part of Dow’s Houston operations.
