Ceramic insert machines high-temperature alloys

The new, patented Kennametal high-performance ceramic KY1540 aims to combine wear resistance with increased fracture toughness and improved resistance to thermal shock. The main field of application of the new grade is in machining and finishing operations and in the medium segment of difficult-to-machine alloys. The makers claim that this cutting ceramic stands out in particular for its excellent performance in machining Inconel, Waspaloy and other Ni-based alloys. With this new cutting ceramic the user can apply higher feed rates and cutting speeds to achieve improved productivity. It is, however, also cost-efficient at lower cutting speeds, if the machine environment and/or the chucking position do not allow machining at the higher cutting speed typical of ceramic cutting materials. As standard the product range includes the geometries and grooving geometries which are characteristic for ceramic.
