Hot commissioning of AvestaPolarit’s new 6-strand Convex Technology® CCM for stainless steels in Sheffield, England, has been completed. Casting started with 140- x 140-mm square billets of austenitic stainless steel, and now 127- and 150-mm square sections have also been added. With a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year of billets and blooms, production from AvestaPolarit’s new CCM will supply external customers as well as AvestaPolarit’s own rolling mills. The caster will produce a full range of austenitic, ferritic and martensitic stainless steels.
