BUTTING has supplied about 1840 tons of duplex pipes for the Saih Nihayda Gas project in Oman. The customer is PDO (Petroleum Development Oman). Since 1979, BUTTING has been supplying more than 110,000 tons of pipes and piping components from NB 20 up to NB 1000 mm in duplex and super duplex to customers like Statoil or NAM. In the nineties, huge gas reserves were discovered in northern Oman. Near the coastal town of Sur a gas liquefaction plant was built at the turn of the millennium, with an annual capacity of 6.6 million tons. The production plant, the Saih Nihayda Gas project, is located in central Oman. On behalf of Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO) a joint venture between Al Hassan Engineering Company SAOG (Oman) and SNC Lavalin (Canada) is responsible for this project. The gas will first be transported from the gas field to a central gas refinery by underground flow and bulk lines consisting of duplex pipes furnished with a polypropylene coating. The gas, thus treated and dried, will then be transported for further processing to Sur via a 350-km carbon steel pipeline. Prior to being shipped, the gas will undergo re-liquefaction. It is assumed that the Saih Nihayda Gas project will eventually produce 20 million cubic metres of gas in a day for a period of 25 years. Korea will be the largest customer having signed a 25 years contract for a total quantity of 4.1 million tons of gas. BUTTING supplied the flow and bulk lines in the duplex steel grade UNS S31803 (1.4462) in dimensions from 219.1 x 4.8 up to 406.4 x 11.9 mm. BUTTING also produced pipes in duplex UNS S31803 (1.4462) for the refinery in central Oman. About 340 tons of pipes in dimensions from 168.3 x 3.4 mm up to 762 x 28 mm worth were successfully supplied to the project.
