At the trade show European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) held in Vienna, Austria, wind experts from the juwi group entered the global competition with a new company structure and a full project pipeline.
“Wind power, especially onshore wind power, has great economic potential. That’s what we will focus on,” says Matthias Willenbacher, CEO and founder of the juwi group. He adds, “Our goal is a 100% renewable energy supply from a mix of wind turbines, solar and biogas power plants, depending on local conditions”.
Last year was the most successful “wind year” in the project developer’s history. More than 248MW of wind energy were connected to the grid in Germany, as well as two large projects in the US and Costa Rica.
All wind farms will work profitably and many of them are lighthouse projects. An example is the wind farm in the small town of Ellern in the Hunsrück region in the South of Germany. It became a visible milestone for the German energy turnaround. In the surroundings of the Soonwald forest, five majestic Enercon E-126 wind turbines started producing eco-friendly electricity. They are 200m in total height and are known as the most powerful onshore wind turbines. Together with three Enercon E-101 turbines they produce almost 120 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity per year. This equals the annual electricity consumption of more than 33,000 German households. Additionally, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 85,000tns a year.
