Britain’s metal industry has received a double boost as stainless steel company AvestaPolarit announced plans for a £14 million investment. The investment will allow the company’s Sheffield site, which employs 800 people, to extend its range of products. Britain’s Department of Trade and Industry also published proposals for a new metals centre of excellence in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt said that this was excellent news for the UK and Sheffield in particular, as AvestaPolarit is a very important player in the stainless steel market. Hewitt added that AvestaPolarit’s decision sends out a positive signal about manufacturing in the UK.
