Finishing Technology International has signed an agreement with the Tell City Plant of ThyssenKrupp Waupaca to supply an innovative quality inspection system for their vertical molding line. The patented system will be the first of its kind in North America, and will be provided by Inspectomation of Mannheim, Germany. The vision system, installed within the chamber of the molding machine, looks for mold/sand defects and takes corrective action, including real-time decisions on pouring, when necessary. The Inspectomation system utilizes color shadow modulation for the extremely fast response time demanded by the short cycle times, allowing for the continuous visual inspection of the green sand molds within the cycle. This installation will bring ThyssenKrupp Waupaca one step closer to their goal of providing their customers with the best product possible through innovative technology in a continuous improvement culture. Start-up is set for the fall of 2011.
