The Board of Directors of Metso Corporation has completed a strategy study and concluded that, going forward, a demerger would offer the best potential for its pulp, paper and power businesses (new parent company for this will be named Valmet Corporation), as well as its mining and construction and automation businesses to utilize their respective strengths in their customer industries faster and more efficiently.

Metso has recently been awarded a contract to supply Daio Paper Corp. with a rebuild of their hardwood kraft fiberline at their Mishima mill, located on Shikuko island, in Japan. Metso will supply main equipment for the rebuild of the Mishima mill’s fiber line.

Metso has developed a new technology with which municipal and industrial wastewater plants are able to improve their performance and reduce the amount of chemicals used in sludge drying process by even up to one third.

Metso will provide a 100MWe biomass boiler island and plant automation system to the Gainesville Renewable Energy Center (GREC) in Gainesville, Florida, USA. Metso's delivery represents more than 25% of the nearly USD 500 million GREC successfully raised in construction financing.

Metso will supply a lime calcining system to OJSC Novolopetsk Steel’s (NLMK) steel plant in Russia.

Metso has announced that it will supply mining equipment to TISCO’s iron ore processing plant in Lan county Shanxi Province China.

On 17 May 2010 Metso’s Mining and Construction Technology’s new office facilities in York, Pennsylvania, USA, was inaugurated by Metso’s President and CEO Jorma Eloranta.
