EU may impose duties on Indian stainless fasteners

The European Union has revived a threat to impose tariffs on screws and bolts from India, citing that EU producers may be victims of subsidies and price undercutting. The EU launched an investigation into whether Indian manufacturers of stainless steel fasteners receive trade distorting government aid and sell the goods in the 27 nation bloc below cost, a practice referred to as dumping.

New manganese plant in Zambia

India-based Taurian Manganese is building a manganese processing plant in central Zambia with an investment of USD 150 million. Construction of the plant is expected to start by June 2011. It will have three furnaces with a combined peak capacity of 60,000 tns/mo. Production will start in 2012, with planned production of 720,000 tns/yr by 2014 dependent on Zambia’s power company Zesco being able to fulfill the power requirements of 100MW by that time.

Nuclear power equipment plant for India

Brighton Equipment Corporation (BEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with officials of the Andhra Pradesh state government to construct a USD 645 million plant in Nakkapally village, in coastal Visakhapatnam, to manufacture equipment for nuclear power projects.

Reliance Industries Limited plans to expand the Dahej petrochemicals plant complex in Gandhar, Gujarat. The total project value of the expansion is estimated to be USD 1.8 billion over several years.
