TATA to invest in two Scottish plants

TATA Steel will invest GBP 8 million into one of its two Scottish plants, increasing its output by up to 50%. The company is set to unveil the plans for the Clydebridge plant in Cambuslang, Glasgow, which will boost its capability to produce high-strength steel plate. The plant carries out two processes, quenching and tempering, that strengthen steel plate.

Ferro-chrome capacity boost

Oriel Resources has launched the remaining two furnaces at its Russian ferro-chrome smelter after a short delay relating to high raw material prices, and now expects capacity to hit 148,000tpy, and is expected it to eventually reach 180,000tpy in 2011 as the second phase of the project comes on stream.
