Dongfeng stainless sheet line underway

Dongfeng Shipbuilding Co. has begun construction on a new stainless steel sheet production line in the city of Wulanchabu in Inner Mongolia, China. The USD 1.19 billion project has a designed annual capacity of 1 million mt.

YUSCO to add new stainless pickling line

Yieh United Steel Corporation will spend TWD 3.58 billion to install a new stainless continuous pickling, annealing, and cold rolling production line at its China production base. Designed to produce 700,000tns, the new production line is designed to increase the company’s cold rolled capacity to 2.1 million tns from the current 1.4 million tns. The new line is scheduled for completion in 2013.

PetroChina begins laying crude pipeline

PetroChina has begun laying a pipeline that will send crude oil from northwestern China and Kazakhstan to feed its new refinery currently under construction in southwestern Sichuan. The pipeline is scheduled to commence operation in 2012 and will wind 878km from Lanzou city to Pengzhou city in Sichuan.

Song new area manager for Jet Edge

Kobe Steel to open headquarters in China

Kobe Steel’s Chinese headquarters will open on 1 April 2011. Kobelco (China) Holding Co., Ltd., as the company will be called, is the first headquarters established in China by a Japanese steelmaker. Based in Luwan, Shanghai, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel is capitalized at USD 50.14 million.

Baosteel to build stainless base at Luoyuan Bay

The government of Fujian in China has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Baosteel to construct a new stainless steel production base called Baosteel Desheng Stainless Steel Co., Ltd in Luoyuan Bay. The project will be executed in collaboration with private sector enterprise Desheng Nickel Co. Ltd.

Molybdenum production increases

Figures released by the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA) revealed that world-wide production of molybdenum continued to increase during the third quarter of 2010, although usage fell.

China to add 258 GW of power capability

Zhang Guobao, director of the National Energy Administration, is reported to have stated that China plans to start the construction of 80 GW of thermal power capacity in 2011.

Ningbo port to get oil terminal

China's Ministry of Transport has approved the phase II construction of what is expected to be the country's largest crude oil terminal. Ningbo Port's new oil terminal is designed to accommodate larger vessels.

China protects its molybdenum

China's Ministry of Land and Resources will add molybdenum to the country's list of protected minerals, which already includes gold, tin, stibium, tungsten, and tombarthite.
