Changan-Baosteel Automotive Steel Joint Laboratory was inaugurated in Chong Qing this November. Xu Lejiang, the chairman of Baosteel Group Corporation, and Xu Liuping, the general manager of China South Industries Group Corporation, jointly inaugurated the laboratory.

Baosteel's rotary cylinder slag treatment technology and equipment system will be applied in CSP steel mill in Brazil. This marks the entry of the technology and equipment in the South American market.

Baosteel has developed 80kg-grade easy-welding high-strength steel that realizes no-pre-heating welding. Baosteel has started the supply of the product in batches to customers.

Easy-welding high-strength steel is used in manufacturing of mechanical equipment used in coalmines, especially for making hydraulic support, which requires corrosion resistance, wear resistance, shock resistance, high strength, lightweight and easy processing.

Baosteel has developed heavy plate with maximum thickness of 178mm for self-elevating marine platform spud leg. This product provides the high level, large thickness, and high performance and requirements among the products for offshore platform heavy plate, promoting China's offshore platform plate localization.

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) and Baoshan Iron & Steel (Baosteel) are planning to construct the fourth hot-dip galvanizing line at a site neighbouring the existing lines at Baosteel-NSC Automotive Steel Sheets (BNA).

The third phase of the oriented silicon steel production line of Baosteel was fully completed and reached an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons. The oriented silicon steel line paved the way for Baosteel to obtain an advantageous scale effect, to create the conditions to optimize production, lower manufacturing costs and enhance the competitiveness of the products made by Baosteel in the market.

Work on the steel-making plant of Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. on the Dongshan Island, Zhanjiang, has started.
