Successful production of ultrawide Ni-alloy plate

Nippon Yakin has successfully produced NAS 625 (UNS N06625) nickel alloy in an ultrawide plate measuring 3510 mm in width and 50 mm in thickness.  The alloy, which has high corrosion and heat resistance, is now available in one of the world’s widest and thickest sizes among the high nickel alloy products.

Nisco Nippon Yakin Kogyo Nanjing succeeded in rolling the alloy using a wide rolling machine at Nanjing Iron and Steel Co., with which it has a cooperative joint venture. This successful production follows the previous case with the NAS 800T ultrawide plate.

The ultra-wide plate is specified for petrochemical plants and other facilities. The use of ultrawide materials means a small number of welding processes are required, leading to cost and lead time reduction. The material was also produced in thicknesses exceeding 50 mm for applications where higher strength may be required.

Ultrawide plates can be difficult to transport due to their extreme size. However, Nippon Yakin has solved this problem by selling and transporting the plates to Chinese customers via its joint venture. This solution provides the advantage of a shorter lead time compared to products exported from Japan to China.
