Stainless Virgin

A 33-foot-tall, 4-ton stainless steel statue of the Virgin Mary is on tour through the Midwest area of the USA, according to the Chicago Daily Herald. The newspaper reported that the statue was attracting the faithful to Transfiguration Church in Wauconda, Illinois and was heading for a gig at Holy Family Parish in Waukegan, Illinois for 7–17 July. The statue, which travels from town to town on a specially designed flatbed truck, attracted more than 2000 people from throughout the area to the Wauconda church, according to the press report. The newspaper quoted the church’s business manager as proclaiming the visitation at Transfiguration Church to be “an extremely blessed event.”
