Stainless UK giant bars for Scottish quay

Stainless UK have supplied 23 giant solid round stainless steel bars with a 5” diameter and 3m length for the construction of an extension to the quay at Campbeltown Harbour in Scotland. The bars weighing 100kgs each were used in the new piled wall built to form the new quay.

Campeltown has developed into a major port and is used by many local manufacturers of wind turbine components. With turbines getting bigger, larger ships are needed to transport the components, hence to facilitate this, a new 140m long quay wall has been built.

The finished quay funded by Argyll and Bute Council, will accommodate the F-type vessels and is capable of handling the larger S-type vessels expected to be used in the future.

The bars supplied by Stainless UK are made of Duplex Grade 1.4462 (F51) stainless steel. This particular material has been selected because of its high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in a chloride environment like that of the new harbour wall.
