Stainless producers urge presidential action

The Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) and the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) have sent a letter to President Bush following a rebuff by the government of India with respect to US concerns about surging imports of stainless steel. Following the failure of the Indian government to respond to concerns about the dramatic surge of imports of stainless steel bar, angle, rod and wire, domestic producers and the steelworkers union have asked President Bush to add these products from India to the steel import relief programme promptly. The letter to President George W. Bush was signed by Paul A. Kelly, Chairman of Specialty Steel Industry of North America and President and CEO of Slater Steel Inc., and Leo W. Gerard, International President, of United Steelworkers of America.
