SS LD24 – new Duplex grade from Sverdrup Steel

Metal prices have increased strongly for months, and as far as we can see, this will continue into 2022. For companies utilizing 304L and 316L in their applications, the cost increases have deteriorated the old cost calculations. Duplex grades, however, with their low content of costly nickel, can in many instances be a superb alternative and give more stable prices. If used wisely, duplex also can reduce weight in constructions due to its higher mechanical strength.

Sverdrup Steel, a leading distributor of duplex stainless steel, has finetuned a new lean duplex grade that will be introduced to the marketplace in Q1 – 2022. SS LD24 is a modified EN 1.4482 lean duplex with a guaranteed PRE of min. 24, is competitively priced and targets typical usages of 304L and in some cases even 316L. Typical applications are; general construction, building industry, tank and storage, automotive industry, energy industry, food industry etc.

The products will be stocked as cold rolled coil/sheet and hot rolled coil/plate in 1500mm width and thicknesses between 1,5mm and 20mm in the first place. Further expansion will follow if the new grade is well received in the market. This will be a great opportunity for the industry to take advantage of the high strength and superior corrosion resistance that SS LD24 offers, at a very reasonable price.
