Sparrows has launched a recruitment drive to fill 143 newly created positions, 101 of which will be in the UK. This follows the announcement earlier this year that the Aberdeen headquartered firm had secured GBP 32 million of new contracts and extensions to existing contracts. The company currently employs over 1600 people, 1000 of which are based in the UK. The new positions will be largely in the UK but also in other parts of Europe and Africa. CEO of Sparrows, Doug Sedge said: “Our confidence in the global offshore market and our robust order book has given us the confidence to kick-start a major recruitment campaign. The new positions will bolster our existing team to work on new and existing contracts and help us gear up capacity for further new business.” Sparrows is seeking to recruit people in a range of technical disciplines including mechanical, electrical and design. In addition to the recruitment campaign, Sparrows has strengthened its training and development programs. The company presently employs 36 graduate engineer trainees, 15 engineering apprentices, six draughting apprentices and over 150 offshore technicians working towards externally awarded vocational qualifications.
