Siemens receives new steel mill contract

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received a contract from the Qatar Steel Company for the supply of process technology for a new steel mill in Mesaieed of Qatar. As per the contract, Siemens will supply melting furnaces, a continuous billet caster and a dedusting plant. The plant systems were initially intended to replace old equipment in the existing steel mill, a project that was awarded to Siemens in the summer of 2010. A growing demand for steel in the Gulf region influenced the decision to build a new steel mill with new equipment, designed for higher production capacity. The new mill has been designed for an annual billet production output of approximately 1.1 million tns and is scheduled to go into operation during the Q1 of 2013.
