Sharon Tube announces expansion

Sharon Tube Co. is adding a new electric resistance weld (ERW) mill that can produce large outside diameters (ODs) and heavier walls, the company says. The mill will be installed at the company’s ERW facility in Niles, Ohio. The $9.5 million project is designed specifically for redraw hollows for the company’s cold draw operations as well as other tubular products. The new mill will incorporate the latest production technology, including inline nondestructive testing, according to Sharon President and CEO William G. Perrine. In addition, the mill provides the company with many advantages, including improved product quality, the ability to produce tubing in a variety of different steel grades such as select alloys, and the ability to produce as-welded tubing to precise OD tolerances. The mill is expected to be operational by March 2003.
