The China Stainless Cooperation Promotion Group (CSCPG), of which IMOA (a non-profit trade association) is a co-founder, recently organized a dedicated session, Green Building Development and Stainless Steel Application, at the Twelfth International Conference, which was held at the China National Convention Centre, Beijing.
The session started with a welcome address from Zhang Zhuping, Deputy Secretary-General, Stainless Steel Council of China, followed by the keynote presentation from Dr Gaetano Ronchi, IMOA Greater China Representative. In ‘Stainless Steel’s Contribution to Green Building Design’, Dr Ronchi highlighted the impact and benefits of stainless steel in sustainable building construction projects, with specific reference to sunscreens.
Stainless steel sunscreens can make a significant contribution to energy saving and daylight optimization in buildings, with exceptional corrosion resistance for very low maintenance and longevity. Dr Wei Fang from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, U.S., followed with a presentation entitled ‘Energy Savings from External Sunscreens: Design Options for China’.
During the afternoon, leading engineering firms and industry experts spoke about other aspects of stainless steel in sustainable construction, including the development of a standard for stainless steel in Architecture, Building and Construction (ABC) applications, and lifecycle environmental impact assessment for steel products.
