Sandvik opens plant in Shanghai

Sandvik has opened a new plant in Shanghai, China, for the manufacture of processing systems and press plates. The plant is the group’s third manufacturing unit in China and will have approximately 50 employees when complete. The processing equipment is supplied to customers in the chemicals and food industries, among others, in which the steel-belt based systems are used, for example, to cool chemicals or to freeze and dry foods. Press plates are used in the production of circuit boards within the electronics industry and the production of laminate in the furniture industry. In addition, the plant in Shanghai contains a demonstration and service centre for customers in the chemicals industry. For the engineering industry, there is also a productivity centre for training customers and Sandvik personnel. Another building in the same area houses the local Shanghai area resources for sales to engineering-sector customers (Coromant, Titex, Dormer and Hard Materials). Sandvik has sales of approximately SEK 1 billion in China and nearly 400 employees. “By becoming established in Shanghai, Sandvik is strengthening its presence in the expanding Chinese market and we can now offer our customers even better service,” says Anders Hägglund, head of Sandvik in China.
