Sandvik Materials Technology has restructured its marketing and distribution of medical materials. As a result, the Sandvik Bioline™ family of stainless steels, titanium and special alloy products for medical and dental applications has been consolidated into a new, dedicated business unit.Supplies to medical device manufacturers of tube, bar, strip, wire, cannulated bar and profile shapes, produced in the Sandvik Materials Technology manufacturing plants in Europe and the USA, are now sold and marketed through a single organisation.
Although the USA and Europe are the largest markets for medical products, the re-organisation strategy recognises the trend for medical devices to be manufactured and sold throughout the world. Consolidated groups and large companies can be assured that the same quality of materials is available globally. The main operating effect of the new organisation is that the Sandvik Bioline sales and marketing unit will function as a global supplier, across all of Sandvik Materials Technology’s product areas, and will provide the co-ordinating role for the world-wide sales and production units. It will support world-wide markets technically and will ensure that the needs of its global customers are serviced with high-quality materials for the manufacture of a wide range of medical products. Typically, these include orthopaedic and dental implants, fracture fixation devices, suture needles and staples, surgical blades and saw cutting tools, dental burrs and reamers, catheter guide wire systems and wire for diagnostic and sensor electrical leads.
