Russia’s Nizhnekamsk builds new plant

One of Russia’s largest petrochemical companies, OAO Nizhnekamskneftekhim, plans to build a USD 125 million plant by 2006 to produce polypropylene. The company has already signed a co-operation agreement with Basell, a joint venture of BASF AG and Shell, and Tecnimont to buy a production license and equipment. Nizhnekamskneftekhim, which is majority state-owned, plans to produce some 120,000tpy of polypropylene a year after 2006 and control a third of Russia’s market.
