Russia reduces import duty for stainless

The Government Commission of Russia approved the reduction of import duty for stainless pipes. For protective measures in foreign trade of RF, the duty will change from the current 28.1% to 9.9%. Specific import duty for tubes in amounts greater than USD 1500 per tonne was also approved. The government of Russia implemented a 5% to 20% antidumping duty for 19 different types of pipes and tubes for oil and gas pipelines and hydrogen sulfide in November 2009. This duty is now replaced by the specific duty except for stainless steel tubes coming from Byelorussia and developing countries using the national preference system. Brazil and China are excluded from using the national preference system. Major suppliers of stainless tubes to the Russian Federation are Japan, Italy, Ukraine, China, Brazil and some of the European Union countries.
