Japanese chemical firm Asahi Kasei Corp. and DuPont’s China unit will build a resin plant in China to capitalise on the world’s fastest growing market. The two companies will establish a production and sales joint venture in June or July, and build a plant in the eastern province of Jiangsu to produce acetal â also known as POM â copolymer resins. The plant is scheduled to start production by spring 2004 and have an initial production capacity of 20,000 tonnes a year, eventually rising to 60,000 tonnes. The total investment in the venture is expected to reach USD 65 million to USD 75 million. Asahi and DuPont said they hoped to use the venture to capitalise on rising demand in the world’s fastest-growing POM market â currently estimated at over 100,000 tonnes per year â as well as to cut costs world-wide.
