Power plant in Puglia, Italy

Edison SpA has said it will go ahead and build a gas-fired power station at Candela in the Puglia region of Italy, after reaching agreement with the Candela municipal authorities. An Edison spokesman said the EUR 200 million plant will be fired by a mix of commercial gas and gas from a local source under an agreement with ENI SpA’s AGIP unit. Launch is scheduled for the end of 2004. The agreement with the municipality follows approval from the environment ministry, and includes conditions on making the energy produced available to the local community, it said.
