Philip Cornes celebrates 50 years

Philip Cornes & Co. Ltd was founded in 1958 in Greet, Birmingham in the UK, to specialise in the supply of nickel alloys and also heat and corrosion resistant stainless steels to various industries throughout the UK where it successfully fulfilled the demand for the fast and efficient delivery of these vital materials. As a result the company rapidly expanded and moved to its own purpose built distribution and service centre in Redditch, near Birmingham. With the growth of the North Sea oil boom in the UK, Philip Cornes quickly established a track record of excellence in the service and supply of specialist materials for this demanding industry. Towards the end of the seventies, Philip Cornes could see that the European market was slowly opening its frontiers and the need for a one market philosophy was essential. Developing world markets and seeking reliable suppliers of specialised materials ensured the continued growth of the organisation. Principle markets were, and still are to this day, in the chemical, oil and gas, heat treatment, engineering and fabrication industries in which it has an enviable reputation as the leading supplier of nickel alloy and special stainless steel products to customers worldwide. Today, Philip Cornes has retained its sales office in Redditch with its head office, service and distribution centre in Southampton serving the UK and the rest of the world. There are also sales offices in Singapore and Shanghai serving South East Asia and the Pacific Rim. During the last decade, Philip Cornes became part of the TW Metals group and one of the leading providers of ‘complete packages’ to many of the world’s leading industrial and technological projects. Substantial and ongoing capital investment in the latest cutting equipment means that they have the capacity to offer close tolerance processing of sheet, plate, pipe, tube and bar. Now a member of the O’Neal Steel group of companies, Philip Cornes is committed to continuously improving its quality of service and the development of its personnel, thereby demonstrating that it is a partner that its worldwide customers can rely on.
