Finland-based stainless steel producer Outokumpu will raise its alloy surcharge on grade 304 material to EUR 1,080 per tonne in June, an increase of EUR 106 per tonne on May’s surcharge. The surcharge on grade 316 material will also rise to EUR 2,257 per tonne, an increase of EUR 85 per tonne. The move follows similar increases in alloy surcharges made by Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Stainless this week. Outokumpu’s overall surcharges remain lower than their German competitor by EUR 38 on 304 grade stainless and by EUR 53 on 316 grade. But the June surcharge adjustments has seen the two companies increase prices for core stainless grades at different rates. Outokumpu opted to increase its June surcharges steeply for 304 grade, whereas ThyssenKrupp chose to make a comparatively larger increase in its 316 grade surcharge.
