Outokumpu Technology Oy will acquire Lurgi Metallurgie GmbH, the world-wide metallurgical technology business of Lurgi AG, for about EUR 52 million. The closing of the transaction is subject to the approval of the respective boards and appropriate national regulatory agencies. By combining the expertise, experience and technology base of the two companies, Outokumpu aims consolidate its position as a leading technology partner in the metallurgical industry. The acquisition of Lurgi Metallurgie strengthens Outokumpu’s technology business significantly and facilitates a potential growth in net sales to a level of EUR 600 million within the next 4–5 years based on the combined capabilities and product offerings of the two companies. This business growth is also expected to be accompanied by considerable profitability improvements. Outokumpu aims to become a key supplier of innovative technologies for the ferrous and ferroalloy industries and to be able to offer a wider technology scope, including turn-key projects. The combination will also facilitate Outokumpu’s goal to become the premier service company to the metallurgical industry world-wide. The plan for the integration of Lurgi Metallurgie and Outokumpu Technology is currently being developed and the detailed integration projects will start as soon as the final approvals have been obtained.
