Outokumpu stainless steel will be used in the thickeners and tanks in the clarifying section of the copper mine. Forta LDX 2101 was chosen for the equipment due to its excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel for these projects is produced at Outokumpu plants in Avesta and Degerfors, Sweden and it is delivered in 2m wide plates that results in fewer plates to manage at the construction site and decreases the number of welds.

Johan Karlsson, General Manager of Outokumpu in Sub Saharan Africa, says: “Outokumpu has strong experience from similar mining project in Africa and Forta LDX 2101 is recognized as a very suitable grade for this application. Our local sales team could offer technical assistance and tailored to-the-door delivery solutions, in combination with flexible production and accurate deliveries from the mills. In addition to high quality stainless steel Outokumpu assisted its customers in the shipment coordination and planning.”
