Okra Energy awards Flesan ssLNG EPC contract

Okra Energy has awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract for Peru’s first small-scale natural gas liquefaction (ssLNG) facility to Flesan, with more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, including civil works, special demolitions, earthworks, anchors, transportation and machinery.

Okra Energy – through its Peruvian subsidiary Lantera Energy SAC – is constructing this first-to-market, high-efficiency natural gas solution in Piura, northern Peru. The LNG plant is 95% complete, and is due to be operational very soon. Small-scale liquefied natural gas facilities enable flexible and scalable energy delivery to areas without gas pipeline infrastructure. The entirety of the new facility’s supply of LNG has already been pre-sold to an international gas distributor, a division of the largest steel manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere. Three additional Okra Energy ssLNG facilities are also currently under contract for delivery in Peru.

The liquefaction facility situated in Piura will employ Okra Energy’s proprietary equipment design and technology to chill natural gas to -158ºC, rendering it a clear, odorless, non-corrosive liquid referred to as LNG. As liquid, natural gas is reduced to 1/600th its original volume, allowing for safe, efficient and affordable transportation to off-grid industries and communities where it can be regasified prior to use. Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel, producing significantly fewer emissions and pollutants than coal, oil or diesel.
