Patrick J. Mullarkey has been named President of United Spiral Pipe LLC, a spiral welded tubular products manufacturing JV between POSCO, United States Steel Corporation and SeAH Steel Corporation. Mullarkey has held several supervisory and management positions in the iron and steel making industry, working as lead engineer for the blast furnace reline division at Raytheon Engineers & Constructors. He joined US Steel in 2000 as area manager, operating and maintenance of South blast furnaces at Gary Works. In 2007, he was named VP of technology at US Steel Kosice in the Slovak Republic and in 2009 he assumed his most recent position as VP of operations for USSK. In both positions he was responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the facilities, including US Steel’s spiral welded pipe operation. United Spiral Pipe produces 300,000 net tons of spiral welded line pipe each year at its facility in Pittsburg. Pipe diameters range from 24in to 64in using top of the line pipe making and coating capabilities, including an automated two step welding process.
